I’m furiously working away at creating the organizational governance documents for one of the NGOs I work with, the Huairou Commission. HC is a community of grassroots women’s organizations and alliance partners collaborating on their commitment to the mission of empowering grassroots women to strengthen their community development practices and transform public policies at local, national, regional and global levels. In order to center stage grassroots women in decision-making processes, Huairou is transitioning from a board run organization to a membership governance structure. They will be holding their first membership meeting in February, at the UN’s World Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve completed the new bylaws, basic agreements of members joining the organization, and Board of Directors nomination procedures. I am now working on guidelines for participation in the first Global Grassroots Congress and the agenda for this two-day meeting.
I look forward to this transition process being completed. I have been working with the Huairou Commission for the past three years on formulating and moving forward on this new governance structure. I’m proud of their commitment to their grassroots women members and diligence in taking all the necessary steps to affect change and adapt to the new world of international development.
